- Golfweek
“AMERICA’S GREATEST LIVING GOLF ARCHITECT.”
Tom Fazio has spent four decades creating some of golf’s most famed tracks. He built numbers 6 and 8 at the revered Pinehurst. He was selected by Pebble Beach to build a new course on their hallowed ground. He was asked by Pine Valley to create their Short Course. He imported an entire forest of trees to the middle of the Nevada desert to create the 18-hole oasis, Shadow Creek. Whether reinvigorating one of the game’s fabled courses or designing his next soon-to-be legend, Tom Fazio, along with his veteran design team, is arguably the most sought-after visionary in the business. If that weren’t enough, no living designer has more credits on Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses and Golfweek’s collections of America’s Best. In fact, Golf Digest actually did away with their poll for Best Modern Day Golf Course Architect when Tom Fazio claimed the award three consecutive times.

Course Highlights
Fallen Oak Hole #1
That contradiction is obvious right from the start with this magnificent par 5 dog-leg left. A huge water oak serves as your target off the tee, but keep in mind there’s a good reason they call it a “water” oak: streams and a lake border the fairway and green.
Fallen Oak Hole #3
Put the driver away. This par 3 calls for pinpoint accuracy. A heavily sloped green falls toward the marsh on the left. So when we say “be right” we mean literally be right.
Fallen Oak Hole #6
One look at this 548-yard par 5 and you’ll know why the word “oak” is in this course’s name. A large number of centuries-old live oaks dot its fairway, as do numerous bunkers. Ball placement is key on every shot from the tee to the approach into this sideways green.
Fallen Oak Hole #15
Just when things were getting shorter comes the longest hole on the course. Over 600 yards from the back tees, this hole will test you physically – and mentally.
Fallen Oak Hole #18
This finishing hole promises plenty of drama. The remarkably elevated tees will take your breath away for more reasons than one. They offer grand views of this bunker-abundant par 4 as well as the classically-styled clubhouse perched on the hill overlooking the 18th green and the course’s namesake live oak.
